With Valentines day and Mothers day approaching, we wanted to share this case study on cardboard supply into the Floristry market place, a key business area for us. With product suitability, performance and lead time being paramount, our experience in this has led us to proudly supply Petalon flowers with their cardboard packaging.

Petalon
Petalon was founded in East London in 2014 by Florence Kennedy, and shortly after this her husband James began his bicycle manufacturing business.
When James needed to send a bunch of flowers one day, they both realised there wasn’t much choice if you wanted to send something beautiful and original for a reasonable price.

Surrounded by James’s bicycles, Florence and James began to form an idea for a better kind of flower delivery. Petalon was born, with the aim of offering beautiful yet affordable flowers, in a more conscious way.

Every week, Petalon designed two fresh bouquets. They deliver these across Britain for 7 days, before designing another two bouquets for the following week and starting again.

In 2018 they extended their service to 7 days a week and launched a nationwide service, offering the same Petalon bouquets on a next-day service to the rest of the country using a carbon-neutral courier.

All of their bouquets are certified carbon neutral and they donate 100% of profits to conservation projects.

The Project

In March 2022, Petalon approached RH Fibreboard to help them with a re-design of an existing box. They required a large printed hinged lid box with additional vent holes to allow airflow in transit.

Utilising the strengths of our in-house Design team, we worked with the customer to put together a solution that fitted the customers brief, and allowed for the contents to be shipped and delivered safely and securely.

The box required a one colour print over a significantly large area of cardboard. Our Weipong Venus 1636 printer slotter with rotary die facility handles this with ease and allows us to print an area of 1.5 metres x 3.2 metres and we feel the end result is a fabulous box with a really striking print.

Their packaging is made in our new RH Bigbox factory, and was one of the first orders that we put through production. As we head into a really important season for Floristry, our lead times typically being 5-7 days, and our storage facility means we are well equipped to supply a very fast moving market from small to large floristry businesses and enterprises.
